National law firm Holding Redlich has implemented the legal research platform Westlaw Advantage as part of its strategic focus on efficiency, risk minimisation and quality across the firm.
Westlaw Advantage draws on authorised law reports and verified legal materials, with research outputs linked to citable authorities. The platform also incorporates secondary materials, including commentary and practitioner texts, within a single research environment.
The adoption builds on Holding Redlich’s existing technology investment, extending the value of tools already embedded within the firm’s operations while improving access to authoritative legal content.
Keren Smith, Chief Knowledge Officer at Holding Redlich, said the decision reflects a clear focus on accuracy and reliability in an evolving legal technology landscape.
“In an environment where AI-generated content is becoming more prevalent, it is critical that the materials underpinning legal advice are accurate, current and recognised by the courts,” Smith said.
“The ability to work directly from authorised law reports and verified secondary materials gives our lawyers greater confidence in the integrity of their research and the advice that follows.”
The primary rationale for implementing Westlaw Advantage is to reduce the time required to complete complex legal research tasks. The platform enables more efficient navigation of multi-step research processes, allowing practitioners to complete work with greater speed and precision.
Smith said this shift reflects a broader evolution in how the firm is approaching artificial intelligence.
“We are moving from experimentation to operational use of AI within our legal research workflows,” she said.
“These tools are now a functional part of how matters are researched and progressed, but accountability remains entirely with the lawyer. It is essential that any AI-assisted output can be verified, checked and relied upon.”
The platform is designed to support, rather than replace, legal judgement, Smith said: “Legal judgement remains central to the practice of law. Westlaw Advantage enhances that judgement by improving access to high-quality materials, but the analysis, advice and responsibility remain with the practitioner.”
